Award Winning Saxophonist, educator and composer Jim Brenan is one of Canada’s foremost Jazz Musicians. Besides being an Associate Professor at Mount Royal University in Calgary, Alberta, he performs as musical director and composer of the Jim Brenan 11, as a member of groups led by Bassist Rubim De Toledo and pianist Chris Andrew, and leads a variety of ensembles made up of himself, and Canada’s most dynamic musicians. This latest group formed in 2021 and consists of Nathaniel Chiang (drums), Jon Wielebnowski (bass), Augustine Yates (piano), and David Lavoie (trumpet). Chiang and Wielebnowski preform regularly as The Eden House-Band on the Music Mile and have a dynamic suitable for Brenan and Lavoie’s modern straight-ahead sound. Yates, who recently moved back to Calgary from Toronto after completing a jazz degree program at Humber College, is a welcome edition to the new group. As a quintet, they play music of 60’s jazz and new originals.
